The "party of NO asserts itself loudly!"
"...get rid of those folks who are in fact wasteful..." Newt Gingrich (OF ALL FUCKING PEOPLE!)
There was a revealing incident in the Senate Finance Committee last week when Senator Bernie Sanders challenged Geithner. Here's the transcript:
SANDERS: "In 2006 and 2007, Lloyd Blankfein, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, was the highest paid executive on Wall Street, making over $125 million in total compensation. Due to its risky investments, Goldman Sachs now has over $168 billion in total outstanding debt. It's laid off over 10 percent of its workforce. Late last year, the financial situation at Goldman was so dire that the taxpayers of this country provided Goldman Sachs with a $10 billion bailout.
Very simple question that I think the American people want to know. Yes or no, should Mr. Blankfein be fired from his job and new leadership be brought in?"
SECRETARY GEITHNER: "Senator, that's a judgment his board of directors have to make. I want to say one thing which is very important. Everything we do going forward has to be judged against the impact we're going to have on the American people and the prospects for recovery. And every dollar we spend will have to be measured against the benefits we bring in terms of---"
SENATOR SANDERS: "Mr. Secretary, you're not answering my question. You have a person who made hundreds of millions for himself as he led his institution that helped cause a great financial crisis. We have put, as taxpayers, $10 billion to bail him out and we have no say about whether or not he should stay on the job?"
SECRETARY GEITHNER: "No, I didn't say that. I think there will be circumstances, as there have been already, where the government intervention will have to come with very tough conditions, including changes in management and leadership of institutions. And where we believe that makes sense, we will do that."
Just say NO to Chrysler. The corporation just DOES NOT GET IT, and NEVER HAS. We the taxpayers bailed the stupid fuckers out in 1979.By the time Chrysler's management admitted their mistake in the 1950s, the company had slipped to third place among the nation's automakers. But because Chrysler's new management reacted by emphasizing sales and production over engineering, the firm's cars were little more than delayed copies of Ford and General Motors products..."LINK
NOW we are looking at this newest bailout for a long-time poorly managed corporation that has NEVER really cared what the hell the buying public WANTS, knowing that they will buy whatever is put out there and advertised as "cool".
Chrysler bought Jeep when it was broke and had NO business buying another auto company. They turned THIS
into THIS piece of undependable shit and called it a Jeep. SHAME ON YOU. NO BAILOUT FOR A COMPANY THAT WOULD DO THAT!
"...Translation: Money's tight, baby. City's in trouble. State's deep in the hole. Nation's broke.
Solution? Upend the system. Think differently. Get creative. Demolish Ye Olde Ways. And maybe get a really nice buzz on while you're at it.
Where to begin? How can the city/state refill their empty coffers and further gouge the populace to make ends meet? Increased bridge tolls? A new per-mile driving tax? Heavier parking fines? State parks abandoned and left to seed? Child's play, darling..."GO.READ

Professor Chris Field, the author of a landmark report on climate change, claimed future temperatures "will be beyond anything" previously predicted.
Speaking at the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in Chicago, he said greenhouse gases increased far more rapidly than expected between 2000 and 2007.
"We are basically looking now at a future climate that is beyond anything that we've considered seriously in climate policy," he said.
Prof Field said his 2007 report, which predicted temperature rises between 1.98F (1.1C) and 11.52F (6.4C) over the next century, seriously underestimated the scale of the problem.
And he blamed the unexpected increases on the burgeoning economies of India and China which are burning massive amounts of coal for electric power.
The warming planet is likely to dry out tropical forests, making them susceptible to wildfires.
The rising temperatures could also speed up the melting of the permafrost, vastly increasing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere, Prof Field warns.
"Without effective action, climate change is going to be larger and more difficult to deal with than we thought," he said.
Prof Field is the director of the Carnegie Institution's Department of Global Ecology, Professor of Biology and Professor of Environmental Earth System Science, at Stanford University. SOURCE

Jane Hamsher: There appears to be a pretty big gap between what DC journalists think Americans think, and what Americans actually think. No better example of this can be found than the "winners" and "losers" that DC media are proclaiming in the wake of the passage of the stimulus bill, and what polling on the subject indicates. The people who live in DC, who pretend to speak for the rest of the country, have no direct experience with what is happening there -- and their attempts to handicap DC politics have more to do with the inside baseball games that seek to protect their own interests above all else. The fact that three and a half million Americans will have jobs as a result of the passage of this bill, or that people who are unemployed or living on food stamps will continue to be able to eat, doesn't seem to graze their analyses. One of the things that I am doing to try to get prepared for what could be a long weird trip is I have gotten me a raggedy old used rototiller and am starting a big 'ol vege patch. I am real angry, and real frightened about our future, or lack of it.
and trying to eke out a completely self-sufficient, organic lifestyle. Sometimes I wish I could go back, but the truth is I drank a lot back then, and life changes, if one is willing to allow it to. We are pretty satisfied with the little life we have here at the beach, in spite of being ready to sell it all and move off to New Zealand for a calmer, warmer existence.
The word on the street is that the right is killing us with phone calls to Congress on the Obama economic recovery plan. One congressperson said the calls are running 100 to 1 against it.What's at stake...

…pick up the telephone and call 202-224-3121 (or use the toll-free service at 866-544-7573). Ask the Capitol operator to transfer you to one of your state’s U.S. senators. When you’re connected, say you’re calling to urge your senator to “support the Obama economic recovery plan and oppose all conservative amendments.” Call back and repeat for your other senator. Then contact everyone you know and urge them to do the same.Did I say you can? Check that.
