Now as the water recedes and residents of Lewis County (Washington) take stock, many are looking back in time, wondering how much the legacy of development in the floodplain, and clear-cut logging in the upriver drainages, contributed to their woes.
Golly, y'think? It is just plain GREED that is the cause of all the flooding this time. Greed and stupidity.

Oh how they have hated us environmentalists and treehuggers! All the while selling off huge tracts of timber to corporations and foreign owners to be clear cut and shipped overseas with NO provisions for replanting, environmental remediation, or ANY thought of the future beyond a quick stop at the bank.

Our damage here on the beach was extensive, and much of it avoidable. Many are still without electrical power. I highlight the story above because of the extent of the greed involved. Research will, indeed, lead you to a deep well of stories going way back...

As Jim Hightower explains it, is that “the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans possess more net worth today than the bottom 90 percent of us combined. Worse, these privileged few and their political henchmen have structured a new economic ‘normal’ of long-term joblessness, low wages, no benefits or worker rights, miserly public services, and a steadily widening chasm between the rich and the rest of us.” We must restore sanity to this nation.
