Bivalves and jazz in Oysterville

Oysterville Washington will rock with jazz and oysters Aug. 19 when drummer Ron Steen, known in the jazz community as the "Godfather of Jazz Jams," will bring an all-star lineup to the Oysterville schoolhouse to benefit the community's annual Water Music Festival. The day will include entertainment, a beer and wine garden, oysters on the barbecue, fruit and cheese plates, and desserts. An all-day pass is $18. See or call the Long Beach Peninsula Visitors Bureau at 800-451-2542.

I haven't volunteered to help at J & O for several years because I have been so down about Bush's war, and felt shame at celebrating anything while kids were being killed in Iraq in my name...I shall break out this year!

As Jim Hightower explains it, is that “the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans possess more net worth today than the bottom 90 percent of us combined. Worse, these privileged few and their political henchmen have structured a new economic ‘normal’ of long-term joblessness, low wages, no benefits or worker rights, miserly public services, and a steadily widening chasm between the rich and the rest of us.” We must restore sanity to this nation.
